BitFunder founder was arrested in the US

The creator of the BitFunder cryptointer John Montroll was arrested on charges of giving false testimony to US financial regulators.

According to prosecutor Jeffrey Berman, the accused repeatedly lied to the jury and misled the SEC staff to avoid responsibility for the loss of BitFunder users' funds that occurred during the hacking.

In 2013, the BitFunder exchange currency exchange was hacked, during which the hackers managed to make a profit that they actually did not earn.

US financial regulators do not forgive the lie

Thus, during the attack, the attackers managed to withdraw about 6 thousand Bitcoin, which for the current rate is almost $ 70 million. After this incident, it was decided to close the exchanger.

Because of the hacking, the company could not repay the debt to users, however, Montroll denied that the actions of hackers were crowned with success. In addition, he presented to the Commission a screenshot with false information about the company's account status for October 2013.

Now, against Montroll, the case of perjury and obstruction of justice is open. Currently, his lawyer refuses to comment, reports Reuters.
