‘Jobsworth’ parking warden fines a car which HIS van is blocking

Moment ‘jobsworth’ parking warden slaps a fine on a car which HIS van is blocking – before telling gobsmacked witness: ‘I control these roads’

  • Witness Richard Austin watched in ‘disbelief’ as the warden fined the VW Golf
  • The Golf was in an apparent stand-off with the warden’s van in a narrow road
  • Richard compared the Brentwood, Essex, scene to a Dom Joly comedy sketch

This is the ridiculous moment a puffed-up parking attendant stuck a fine on a car which was being blocked by the traffic warden’s own van – before telling a gobsmacked witness, ‘I control these roads’.

Richard Austin was driving along a narrow road in Brentwood Essex on Saturday when he saw a black VW Golf in an apparent stand-off with a red Renault van because it was impossible for both vehicles to squeeze through the tight gap.

To his disbelief, Richard then watched a uniformed traffic warden exit his van, march over to the Golf – which had been forced to stop on the double yellow lines – and slap a ticket on the dashboard.

‘I was watching in disbelief. At first, I thought “why has the car got its headlights on” but then I realised it was his hazards and he was giving out a parking ticket,’ he told metro.co.uk.

In a tweet, he also compared the parking attendant’s ludicrous actions to a Dom Joly comedy sketch.

And a video taken from inside the Golf and shared on Richard’s social media shows the moment the fine is issued.

The 45-second clip shows the Renault stopped a few feet away from the Golf, where the driver is filming, flashing its hazard lights.

The camera then spins round to focus on the passenger door window where the parking attendant is seen writing on a yellow ticket. He then leans over and plonks the fine on the Golf’s dashboard while the driver laughs at the absurdity of the decision

The warden then wanders away and the driver says: ‘[He’s] blocking the street.

‘Cars behind me are trying to get through, and he’s just writing me a ticket.’

Richard, who confronted the attendant after witnessing him issue the fine, was reportedly by the warden that ‘he didn’t like the way he (the Golf driver) drove towards him in the road.

He added: ‘But I said ‘look you’re a traffic warden, not a policeman” and he said “no I control these roads”.

‘It was the most bizarre conversation I’ve ever had with a man. The guy is taking control of the highway himself. He’s a local jobsworth’.

A spokesperson from South Essex Parking Partnership told metro.co.uk: ‘We have been made aware of the alleged incident and we are currently investigating.’
